Ghosts of Greenwich Village: 2-Hour Private Walking Tour

Private Tours New York
$70
Dig up Manhattan's spine-chilling past on this 2-hour private walking tour of Greenwich Village, known as one of the city's most haunted neighborhoods. Together with a guide, you'll head to some of the village's spookiest spots, including Washington Square Park and NYU's Brown Building, and hear tales of lost children, celebrity ghosts, and park-dwelling phantoms. There is a maximum of 15 participants for this tour.

Meet your guide at a location in Greenwich Village, and start your private walking tour by learning why the Village has such a rich array of resident ghosts and suspected hauntings.

Pay a visit to the Poe house, where famed writer of mystery and macabre Edgar Allan Poe once lived, and hear tales of his time in New York City. Then continue to Washington Square Park, learning about the park's 'Hanging Tree' and the events that gave it its name en route. Once in the park, view its marble arch and listen to spine-chilling tales of what makes this one of the city's most haunted public spaces.

Next make your way to the Brown Building, site of the infamous Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire. Victims of this tragedy are said to still wander the building's halls to this day.

Stroll up 5th Avenue to see the Church of the Ascension — supposedly haunted by artist John Lafarge — before stopping at 14 West 10th Street, reportedly the most haunted residential address in Manhattan. This house is thought to be home to 22 different spirits and has been the site of several murders.

Make your way into the heart of the West Village, passing the former house of American poet Emma Lazarus, as well as one of the most beautiful libraries in New York. Your next stop is 12 Gay Street, which is haunted by several spirits, including former New York City Mayor Jimmy Walker. Along the way, pass the Stonewall Inn and Sheridan Square, where the Stonewall Riots of 1969 occurred.

Cross Christopher Street for a visit to the historical piano bar known as Marie's Crisis and Chumley's, a legendary speakeasy that recently reopened as a restaurant.

Your tour concludes at the Cherry Lane Theatre, Manhattan's oldest Off-Broadway theater and home to a few actors who never left the stage after death.

Avenue Q on Broadway

Theater, Dance, & Musicals New York City
$94
Tony-winning musical Avenue Q is the hilarious and heartfelt story of a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York with big dreams and little money. He can only afford to live on Avenue Q but—good news!—his neighbors turn out to be a remarkably funny bunch of characters.

Picture a grown-up episode of Sesame Street, with satirical songs (“It Sucks To Be Me”) and jokes replacing preschool-style banter. The actors remain visible at all times and mimic the action of their puppets, adding yet another level of humor. Avenue Q is fast-moving and laugh-packed, particularly for audiences willing to embrace its rebellious, politically incorrect spirit.

In spite of the presence of Henson-esque puppets, Avenue Q is not a children's musical. Older teenagers will enjoy the show because it tackles issues of growing up and leaving home, but parents should use discretion in deciding whether their kids are mature enough for Avenue Q.

The Band's Visit on Broadway

Theater, Dance, & Musicals New York City
$74
The Band's Visit, a critically acclaimed new musical and New York Times Critics' Pick, arrives on Broadway this Fall 2017 direct from a sold-out engagement where it was hailed as, "A place you want to visit if you're looking for signs of new and exciting life in the contemporary American musical" (Ben Brantley, The New York Times).

An Egyptian Police Band arrives in Israel to play a concert. After a mix-up at the border, they are sent to a remote village in the middle of the desert. With no bus until morning and no hotel in sight, these unlikely travelers are taken in by the locals. Under the spell of the desert sky, their lives become intertwined in the most unexpected ways. The Band's Visit celebrates the deeply human ways music and laughter connect us all.

"This is the place you want to visit if you are looking for signs of new and exciting life in the contemporary American musical.” - Ben Brantley, The New York Times

“It doesn't feel like any musical ever. It doesn't sound like anything else you've heard. Perfect is the wrong word for such a rangy, unusual musical, but it'll just have to do.”– Jesse Green, New York Magazine

NYC Speakeasy Walking Tour

Booze Tour New York
$27
Discover New York City's most secretive speakeasies on this guided, 3-hour, small-group walking tour in Lower Manhattan and Greenwich Village. Take a friendly stroll to discover six or seven of the most secretive speakeasies, hidden behind unmarked doors, coffee shops, restaurant kitchens, and more. Skip the lines with reserved tables, sip craft cocktails, and turn back the clock to the roaring 20s while the tour guide details the history of Prohibition and the causes and effects that led to pass and enforce the 18th amendment.

The meeting point for the group is always at a park where there is seating, shade, and water. While the group awaits for all the attendees to arrive, the tour guide will provide some general colonial history of New York City and deliver interesting facts related to the era — like why we say 'bucks' instead of dollars, why 'Houston' is pronounced differently in NYC, and much more.

Once the whole group is ready, the tour guide will provide a small introduction about the speakeasy tour and explain how long it is, how many speakeasies will be visited (it's usually six or seven), and at which speakeasy the group will be allowed to grab a drink. The tour guide will also explain where the tour ends, which is always an area with nightlife, bars, clubs, and restaurants — all located in close proximity to subway entrances.

On every tour, the first drink is enjoyed at the first speakeasy. In most cases, the group will either skip the line, get a reserved table, or both — but skipping the line is guaranteed. While enjoying a high-quality, internationally recognized, award-winning cocktail, the tour guide will explain about the causes and effects that led to passing the 18th amendment (Prohibition). The guide will not only explain how and why it was passed, but the history of alcohol consumption in the US in general, the history of alcohol taxation, and most importantly, how the US tried to enforce Prohibition.

For each drink, spend up to an hour, but in most cases, the group only takes around 40 minutes. Tour guides are obliged to assure that no one feels too rushed to finish their drinks because they are high-quality crafted cocktails that ought to be savored and enjoyed.

Some speakeasies will have even Burlesque shows, but all are completely hidden from the exterior. Go through unmarked doors, back alley ways, phone booths, a bank's vault door, behind a psychic shop, through doors indicating 'No Entrance,' 'Emergency exit only' or even through a Five Guys burger joint. Most of the speakeasies are so well hidden that most of our clientele are actually locals struggling to find them, even with the physical address on their phones.

At the last stop, the guide will give the option to either stay at the last speakeasy for a third drink or to explore the stimulated and vivid neighborhood where the tour ends, where there is many nightlife establishments, restaurants, clubs, bars, stand up comedy, life music and much more.

Your pass is activated when you visit your first attraction, and then it's valid for the number of calendar days you select.

This 2-hour intimate experience provides a haven where music lovers can relax and engage with musicians while enjoying hors d'oeuvres, wine and dessert. This exceptional evening runs the 1st Thursday of every month with different musicians performing at various homes in Harlem.

The Harlem Safe House Jazz Parlor is artistically directed by Craig Harris, a trombonist, composer and longtime Harlem resident. When Craig Harris exploded onto the jazz scene in 1976, he brought the entire history of the jazz trombone with him. From the growling gutbucket intensity of early New Orleans music to the refined, articulate improvisation of the modern era set forth by J.J. Johnson and into the confrontational expressionism of the ‘60s avant-garde, Craig handled the total vernacular the way a skilled orator utilizes the spoken word. He has performed with a variety of progressive jazz's most influential figures, and his projects display both a unique sense of concept and a total command of the sweeping expanse of musical expression. It is those two qualities that have dominated Craig's past thirty years of activity, bringing him far beyond the confines of the jazz world, into the sphere of multimedia and performance art as composer, performer, curator and artistic director.

Jazz Fest Concert Series and Fish Fry Option

    Music New York
    $100
Enjoy a jazz concert in a 19th-century, Brooklyn brownstone house. 'Remembering When' is a celebration of music in the heart of Brooklyn's historic Bedford–Stuyvesant neighborhood, where jazz reigned in the 1930s. Enjoy live music performed in an intimate setting plus an open-mic session.

This jazz concert series is hosted in a salon-style, acoustic sound room — located inside a restored Victorian brownstone building in Brooklyn's historic Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood.

Imagine retreating back to the 1930s, when jazz music reigned supreme in this burgeoning area. Spend the evening in an intimate setting, enjoying a live jazz concert, the option of a Southern fish fry buffet, and an open-mic opportunity to sing or play an instrument.

During the 1930s, music fans didn't have to go to Manhattan to experience the jazz scene. Brooklyn had one of it's own. Bedford Stuyvesant had the largest jazz neighborhood in Brooklyn, with venues that housed jazz greats like Thelonius Monk, Randy Weston, Miles Davis, Max Roach, Hank Mobley, and others.

All that eventually changed as jazz clubs began to wane in favor of a different generation of music. This concert series revives the local jazz scene of the past, with no bells, whistles, or amps. This is salon jazz — intimate, classic, acoustic concerts — every Friday and Saturday night.

Arrive early to meet the performers, then enjoy an evening of great music, with a behind-the-scenes look at this unique jazz venue.

    Rockaway Beach Water Park Splash

    Water Sports New York
    $28
Cool down this summer with an experience unlike anything you've probably ever done, with 2-hours on a floating water park. Hop aboard this water park and jump, swing, dive and swim. The Tarzan Boat is a unique boat design featuring a 6ft platform called the Monkey Jump, a 14ft Gorilla Jump high dive, a 12ft Tarzan Swing, plus a trampoline known as the Monkey Bounce. Daredevils can also tryout the boat's 12ft high trampoline, and jungle-themed curvy water slide.

Head to Rockaway Beach in Queens, and experience an afternoon in beautiful Jamaica Bay. After checking in at the water park, change into a bathing suit and you are ready to jump into the water. Swim over to the Tarzan Boat, a floating water park with trampolines, a high dive, rope swing, water slide, and various platforms to dive off. If you get tired, there are floats all around the boat to relax, recharge, and get back into the action.

While at the water park, families and friends can also choose from many other water activities that include Jet Skis, kayaks, and standup paddle boards (these activities are booked separately). If anyone in your group is not interested in water activities, they are welcome to hang out on the Thai Rock deck and outdoor bar where they can watch you and enjoy an afternoon with food, drink and music (at own expense).
