Mont St.-Michel Tour from Paris with Lunch

Multiday Tour Paris
$182
Take a full-day tour from Paris to one of the most popular attractions in France, the fairytale island of Mont St-Michel off the coast of Normandy. Your guide will take you on a narrated walking tour of the exquisite Benedictine abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most revered wonders of Europe. You'll then have free time to explore the village at your leisure to browse shops and watch the incredible spectacle of the bay's tide rising and surrounding the island.

You'll be picked up from a central Paris meeting point or your hotel (depending on option selected) in the early morning to begin your full-day adventure to Mont St-Michel. Sit back and enjoy the views on the long coach drive north through the beautiful Normandy countryside.
Arrive at Mont St-Michel in the late morning for your guided walking tour of this iconic attraction, perched on a rocky island amid a vast bay and encircled by stout ramparts and battlements. After fueling up with lunch and refreshments (included), follow your expert guide on a walk to the top of the hilly village, where you'll then travel back in time as you enter the fascinating abbey.
Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, Mont St-Michel was a major cultural and pilgrimage center during the Middle Ages. Legend has it that the abbey was founded in the 8th century, when Aubert, the bishop of Avranches, was visited by the Archangel Michael in a dream. To this day the abbey is still crowned by a gilded copper statue of Michael slaying a dragon, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.
See the abbey's remarkable cloister and refectory, and view how the ramparts have been added to support the Gothic monastery over the centuries. You'll also hear about this attraction's most well-known and alluring feature: the extreme tides. At low tide, the island can be surrounded by bare sand for miles, but at high tide — barely six hours later — the water swells up and fills the bay, surrounding the entire island.
After your tour, you're free to wander the village around Mont St-Michel on your own. Walk around the abbey's ramparts, browse the shops along the main street, visit the island's museums, and watch the sea rush in from the Atlantic and surround Mont St-Michel at high tide.
You will spend approximately four hours at Mont St-Michel before departing on your relaxing drive back to Paris.

Early in the morning our driver will pick you up from your hotel on a comfortable minivan and you will start your tour with morning coffee and french croissants.
The first castle which you visit is Chateau de Cheverney. This castle is one of the most famous castles of the Loire Valley, it boasts not only its elegant decoration but also an enviable constancy-for almost eight centuries here lived the same family-Yuro de Vibro which faithfully served the French crown. Walking along this magnificent castle, along the luxurious halls of the palace, you will be able to feel the atmosphere of those times by looking at the decoration of the noble people of that century. Surprisingly, all pieces of furniture, decorations and paintings have been preserved in excellent condition, looking at them you may think that the castle is still residential.

Then you will visit the wine domain located next to the chateau, as you know Cheverney and the entire Loire Valley is famous for its delicious wines. Since the Middle Ages local wines have been supplied to all the palaces of the king.
In this domain, you will taste several varieties of wine, after which we will take you on a short excursion to the city of Blois, in this ancient city we have planned for you a lunch of several French dishes which are very good with the wine of local wineries. And finally there's one more castle to visit in the Loire Valley, and it's the most romantic and the most refined. Among the people, it is known as the "Castle of Ladies". He acquired this name thanks to the fact that mostly the women were living inside it including Diana de Poitiers, Katerina Medici. They tried to equip it so that it looked as elegant and beautiful as possible. Very quickly, Chateau Chenonceau turned into an architectural symbol of France, like the Eifel Tower in Paris. To date, this castle is one of the ten most beautiful castles in the world and its uniqueness lies in the fact that it was built not on the shore but over the river Cher. Cnenonceau is a castle - a bridge, a castle- a fantasy that seems to hang between heaven and water.
After seeing this charming castle and captivated by its beauty, we will head to the last place of our excursion to the small town of Amboise, the glory of which spread to the whole world. It was this place that became the last haven of the great and brilliant Leonardo da Vinci. In this town we want to invite you to a cup of coffee in one of the oldest French cafes. And this will be the end of an interesting and fascinating day spent in the Loire Valley after which our driver will take you back to Paris to the doorstep of your hotel.

Multiday Tour Paris
$95
See two magnificent French castles – Vaux le Vicomte and Château Fontainebleau – on a day trip from Paris! Audio-guided tours at each site are included, so you'll learn about the castles' history and art, as well as the eccentric royals who once called the places home. Enjoy free time to explore the castles' gardens, seeing the grandiose fountains, lakes and monuments that characterized palace grounds during the Renaissance and Baroque eras.

Leave central Paris by luxury coach and travel to Vaux le Vicomte, a handsome little town just 34 miles (55km) southeast of the capital. Its star attraction is the Vaux le Vicomte Castle – the impressive Baroque chateau that allegedly inspired the Palace of Versailles – so hop off your coach and head inside for your audio-guided tour.

While admiring the castle's plush interiors and elaborate vaulted cellars, learn about Nicolas Fouquet – King Louis XIV's finance minister – who created the building using the crème de la crème of French architectural talent. After exploring the castle, head outside to soak up the extensive garden scenery, seeing the dramatic fountains, lawns and flowerbeds that cover the whopping 99-acre (40-hectare) site. Enjoy some time for lunch in the on-site café (own expense), and then return to your coach.

The only royal castle to be continuously inhabited for over seven centuries, Fontainebleau is one of the country's more exceptional palaces – deservedly taking a place on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.

Step inside and explore the opulent Renaissance building with an audio guide, hearing all the gossip about the French royals who once called the place home. Gaze upward to see mesmerizing ceiling frescoes, and admire the intricate wood carvings and 15th-century furniture that typifies the castle's lavish interior.

At the end of your audio tour, head outside to explore the grounds and ornamental lakes independently. Have your camera ready to capture the romantic gardens against the backdrop of the castle, and then return to your coach for your journey back to Paris.

Crowning the abbey is a gilded copper statue of Michael slaying a dragon, an icon that is said to represent the triumph of good over evil.

Walk around at your leisure, viewing the abbey's remarkable refectory and cloister, and notice how the ramparts have been added to support the Gothic monastery over the centuries. Having explored the abbey, browse the surrounding shops and museums and perhaps walk to the top of the village to witness the attraction's most famous feature: the extreme tides. Normandy D-Day Landing Beaches Tour including Omaha Beach, Cider Tasting and Lunch

Multiday Tour Paris
$203
Spend a day away from Paris and visit the Normandy beaches where thousands of the Allied Powers' troops landed on D-Day to reclaim France during World War II. Focusing on the sites where heavy losses were suffered by American soldiers, this full-day tour visits Utah Beach Museum, the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer and Omaha Beach Visitor Centre. Listen to poignant tales about the D-Day landings, enjoy time on the beaches and experience other Normandy highlights, too, with a traditional cider and calvados tasting plus a 2-course lunch in the countryside.

Leave Paris by air-conditioned coach in the early morning, and travel toward the shores of northern France. Listen to your guide's tales of the bloody battles that took place in Normandy during WWII, and compare the stories to the sights of countryside tranquility that abound in the area today.

Your first stop is Utah Beach Museum, housed in an original German bunker and built on the beach where the first American troops landed. The impressive museum charts the planning of Operation Overlord (the Allied codename for the Normandy Invasion) and documents the stories of French citizens whose actions during WWII shaped the face of Europe today.

Explore with your guide, and learn about the events of June 6, 1944 — or D-Day — when the Normandy landings commenced. Hear of Utah Beach, where the first Allied troops arrived, and gaze out at unparalleled views of the sands from inside the museum before heading down to the beach itself. Utah Beach is now home to one of only six remaining original B-26 fighter planes that were used during the invasion.

Continue into the Normandy countryside and stop to visit a traditional cider-making orchard for a tasting of cider and calvados (an apple-based brandy) inside an atmospheric 17th-century barn. Then, enjoy a break for lunch in a local restaurant with a view that overlooks the port of Grandcamp-Maisy. While the dishes served are subject to change, two courses are always served (a main course of fish or meat, followed by dessert) as well as a glass of cider.

Feeling revitalized, head to Pointe du Hoc, a German defense on the cliff tops that was heroically seized by US troops. After stopping to stretch your legs, travel onward to Colleville-sur-Mer and pay your respects to the fallen at the American Cemetery. Gaze down from the cemetery to Omaha Beach, one of the landing beaches where many American soldiers are buried, and then step inside Omaha Beach Visitor Centre to learn about the Omaha Beach landings when very little went as planned.

Having explored the center with your guide, return to your coach and finish your day with a drop-off at the start point in central Paris.

Upon arrival on the island, your guide will give an orientation tour that will ensure you will see all the most important attractions, the most famous of them all, the hilltop Abbey of Mont Saint-Michel. You will then have a few free hours to explore the Abbey at your leisure and soak up the splendor of the interior with an audio guide tour or stroll the wonderfully picturesque streets in search of the perfect photo opportunity.

You can then choose from some of the many options for lunch, ranging from dining rooms serving rustic meat-focused fare to sophisticated restaurants with bay-view terraces specializing in seafood. Alternatively, you can stop by one of Mont Saint-Michel's crêperies and feast on galettes (buckwheat pancakes) paired with Normandy cider, for a more casual and characteristically Breton feed.

Commemorating the Australian New Zealand Army Corps who came together to aid the British Empire during World War I, ANZAC Day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the war. It originally commemorated the landing of forces at Gallipoli on April 25, 1915 – which would ultimately prove a bloody failure – but ANZAC Day has grown to become an important Australian day of remembrance around the world.

The ANZAC legend was poignantly put into words by Sir William Deane, Governor-General of Australia: "Anzac is not merely about loss. It is about courage, and endurance, and duty, and love of country, and mateship, and good humor and the survival of a sense of self-worth and decency in the face of dreadful odds.”

After the dawn service, you'll spend the rest of the day on a guided tour of the surrounding Somme area, a part of France that suffered severely in the violent and bloody battles of WWI. Visit Somme's many battlefields, memorials, cemeteries and landmarks while hearing vivid stories and learning about the successes and failures of WWI from your guide.
Visit the massive Lochnagar Crater in the village of La Boiselle, followed by the site of the Battle of Pozières. Then, visit the Thiepval Memorial.

The huge Nymphéas studio, a stone's throw from the house, has also been restored and contains the Foundation's Shop.

You will also enjoy time in the gardens which have been replanted as they once were and offer visitors the “painting from nature” which Claude Monet's contemporaries considered to be one of his masterpieces. The rectangular Clos Normand, with archways of climbing plants entwined around brilliantly coloured shrubs, lies before the house and studios, offering from Spring to Autumn the palette of varying colours to the painter-gardner who was “ecstatic about flowers”. Lastly, the Water Garden, formed by a tributary of the Epte, lies further away, shaded by weeping willows. With its famous Japanese Bridge, its wistarias, azaleas and its pond, it has once more become that casket of sky and water which inspired the pictorial universe of the water lilies.

At the end of your tour and after having been driven back to Paris, you will be given a complimentary Skip-the-Line Admission Ticket to Musée d'Orsay for you to enjoy at your convenience during your stay in Paris.

Small-Group WWI Day Trip from Paris: Verdun and Meuse-Argonne Battlefields

Multiday Tour Paris
$293
Immerse yourself in the history of World War I on this day trip from Paris to Verdun and Meuse-Argonne, the sites of two major WWI battles. Your professional guide will teach you about the tragic, brutal Battle of Verdun and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Listen to these stories as you visit famous WWI battlefields, cemeteries and landmarks including the Battlefield of Verdun, Douaumont Ossuary, Fort of Douaumont, the Romagne War Museum, the Trench of Bayonets and the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, the largest US cemetery in Europe. Numbers are limited to 8 people on this small-group tour, ensuring a more personalized experience.

You will be taken to the east to the region of Meuse to visit Verdun. When you arrive, you'll see the profound marks that World War I left on the landscape.

Visit the Battlefield of Verdun to learn about the massive Battle of Verdun in 1916, now known as The Hell of Verdun. The human cost of this 300-day battle was horrendous, leaving hundreds of thousands of soldiers dead. Your guide will conjure stories about the battle to give you a real sense of what happened here.

Drive past the London Trench to see where British troops delivered supplies and medical help, and then arrive at the Ossuary of Douaumont, a memorial containing the remains of soldiers who died during the Battle of Verdun.

Then head to Fort Douaumont, the largest and highest fort on the ring of 19 defensive forts protecting the city of Verdun. Your guide will explain how Fort Douaumont was taken over by German troops, shocking the French Army's structure and setting the stage for the rest of the Battle of Verdun.

The most chilling place among the eerie landscape of Verdun is the Trench of Bayonets, which you'll visit next. After the war, a line of a dozen bayonets was found protruding from the ground. Experts believe that a German artillery bombardment collapsed the trench, burying the French soldiers.

Leaving Verdun behind, head to the Argonne region for lunch (included) before visiting one of the sites where the infamous Meuse-Argonne Offensive took place in 1918. Discover the part of the battlefields where General Pershing's American Expeditionary Force got involved in the fighting. As you'll learn, this offensive was a part of the final Allied offensive of WWI that stretched along the entire Western Front.

Nearby, visit the Romagne War Museum to learn about the American and German units that fought in the area around Romagne-sous-Montfaucon during the war. Most of the collection comes from within 2 miles (3 km) of the village, providing an fascinating, intimate up-close look at war's remains. Afterwards, you can browse the small museum shop for battlefield relics and books.

Your last stop is the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, the largest US Cemetery in Europe with more than 14,000 graves. Located just east of the village of Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, the cemetery contains the largest number of American military dead in Europe, most of whom lost their lives during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive.

This tour is a sobering and moving experience, giving you a new, enlightened understanding of the plight of American, French and German troops during WWI. At the end of the day, hop back in the minivan and head back to Paris.

Paris Full-Day Tour: Become a Parisian for a Day

Multiday Tour Paris
$164

A bit of glamour, a dose of history, a dash of quirk, and a lot of food—this total Paris tour is packed with everything you could ever need to see, do, and taste in order to be an honorary Parisian for the day. Start in the Paris fashion district, and walk with an insider guide to admire the Louvre and enjoy a macaroon tasting. See Centre Pompidou, sample some brandy, enjoy cheese and pastries, and walk through the Marais. This tour is limited to 12 people to provide a small-group experience.

Get to know the City of Light through the eyes of a local on your full-day tour, which starts in the heart of one of Paris' most expensive and fashionable neighborhoods, where luxury, elegance, and beauty are around every corner.

With your guide, stop by an illustrious food store to sample a delicate macaron, a beloved French specialty. Then walk toward the Musée du Louvre, home to some of the world's most celebrated art, such as the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. You won't go in (it can take hours—no, days—to properly explore this treasure trove of art), but you'll wander through an arcade that offers a free glimpse into the sculpture gallery. Relax in the well-manicured gardens, and enjoy some of the best sightseeing Paris has to offer.

Next up is more food. Head to a lively Parisian market to indulge in one of France's most popular gastronomic pleasures, cheese. Perhaps taste some smooth, mild Brie, or sample a slice of pungent Roquefort, known as the ‘King of Cheeses.' Then stroll through Paris' secret arcades to discover quirky shops, boutiques, and one of the oldest buildings in the city.

Continue to the fascinating Centre Pompidou, where the first leg of your tour ends. Here, you have a bit of free time to wander and explore on your own. You could grab lunch at a bistro, or pick up a quick sandwich; be warned—there's a lot of food to come in the afternoon. Or, perhaps go up to the top of the Pompidou for the best free view of Paris. (Food, drinks, and any entrance fees at your own expense during this break.)

After an hour, meet up with your group and guide outside the Notre-Dame Cathedral. Then, head off to explore the medieval neighbourhood of Le Marais, where highlights include beautifully preserved Gothic churches and streets, the remains of Paris' 12th-century defence walls or breathtaking tucked away mansions. Le Marais is full of sweet shops, pâtisseries, boutiques and cafés, so be sure to quiz your guide on their recommendations so you can come back in your own time. We'll have a peek in three different pastry stores to taste iconic French sweets & pastries!

Finally, stop at a lovely wine bar to get a personalised wine tasting. Sip a range of French wines and try some delicious liqueurs, including Armagnac or "Old Plum", accompanied by a variety of French cheese or charcuterie, like ham or rillettes.

After an action-packed day in Paris and a peak by Paris most beautiful square, Place des Vosges, bid your guide farewell and end your tour at Bastille in the heart of vibrant Paris.

Vaux-le-Vicomte Castle Day Trip with Chateaubus Shuttle

Multiday Tour Paris
$32
Enjoy an independent tour from Paris to Vaux-le-Vicomte Castle, known as the origin for the idea of the Palace of Versailles, with this package that provides admission to the château and round-trip transportation on the 'Chateaubus' shuttle from the local train station. You will need to make your own way to the local Verneuil L'Etang station by RER train from Paris. When you arrive at Vaux-le-Vicomte, explore the estate to learn about the history of Nicolas Fouquet, King Louis XIV's Minister of Finance, whose extravagance in creating his castle and gardens led to his imprisonment by the Sun King.

Your day trip to Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, about one hour outside of Paris, starts with a 35-minute direct train ride from Gare de L'est in the city to the Verneuil L'Etang station on RER Line P (train tickets at your own expense). When you arrive at the local station, your provided shuttle takes you through the countryside to the castle.

The grandiose and awe-inspiring Château de Vaux-de-Vicomte is one of Europe's most influential and significant architectural landmarks—the inspiration behind the Palace of Versailles. It was built between 1658 and 1661 for Nicolas Fouquet, the finance minister for King Louis XIV. Architect Louis Le Vau, landscape architect André le Nôtre, and painter-decorator Charles Le Brun worked together on Fouquet's large-scale project for the first time. Their collaboration marked the beginning of the 'Louis XIV' style, combining architecture, interior design, and landscape design, the same combination you see at Versailles.

With your admission, explore the interior of the château, lavishly decorated with gilded walls, statues, tapestries, and the era's finest furnishings throughout the private apartments and sumptuous state rooms. Outside, the gardens are the perfect place for a leisurely stroll or a golf cart ride. Complete with fountains, canals, and stone curbs, the gardens feature a fascinating optical illusion, distorting its distance depending on from where you're looking at it.

It's no surprise that the estate is a popular venue for celebrity weddings and film shoots. It was chosen by Mittal and Eva Longoria and Tony Parker for their wedding receptions; and it was used as Drax's chateau in the James Bond film Moonraker. It can also be seen as a backdrop in more than 60 other movies, such as Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette.

The château is run by the fifth generation of family owners, and you just may bump into one of the family members, as they are regularly on the grounds. After your visit, the shuttle takes you back to the train station, where you'll board the RER for the return trip to Paris.

Versailles Gardens Walking Tour from Paris

Multiday Tour Paris
$39
Experience France's most dramatic gardens, at the Palace of Versailles. Travel by train to see the gardens of Versailles, where you'll explore the grounds as your expert guide reveals bits of enchanting insight and history along the way. There is an option at the end of the tour to stay and explore the palace on your own and immerse yourself deeper into its history. No trip to Paris would be complete without seeing this iconic, awe-inspiring spot.

Meet your guide in central Paris and then take the train to Versailles to see one of the most magnificent and famous gardens in Europe. Dating back to the 17th century, the palace began as Louis XIII's hunting lodge and housed three French kings before the French Revolution. The gardens are among the chateau's most stunning features, reflective of the time and effort it took to create and expand them over hundreds of years.

Follow your guide into the gardens surrounding the Palace of Versailles. Stroll the grounds and admire the beds of manicured plants and aromatic flowers, originally planned by the famous French landscape architect André Le Nôtre. Discover the scandals, secrets, myths and legends the garden has kept since it was commissioned by Louis XIV in 1661. Explore hidden corners, lakes, statues and more. Walk the road to revolution and Marie Antoinette's downfall. Witness the vast original perspective of the grounds, developed by Le Nôtre by widening the Royal Path and digging the Grand Canal.

Learn just how much manpower creating these gardens required. Obscene amounts of dirt had to be displaced to create the flower beds, the Orangerie, the fountains and the canals. Previously, the land was woods, grassland and marsh, but thanks to the dedication and work of many people, it was transformed into a beautiful wonder. At the end of the tour, you will have the option to purchase tickets for the palace, which you can explore at your leisure. Alternatively, return to Paris by train with the rest of the group.

Please note: On Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from March to October (plus select other dates) musical garden and musical fountain shows take place in the afternoons. These are not included in the tour.
