We all love chocolate! Now you can discover how fine chocolate has been a specialty of Amsterdam for hundreds of years.  This tour is the perfect way to indulge your sweet tooth!

Maximum Group Size: 6

Our 3-hour Amsterdam Chocolate Day tour will begin with you meeting your guide.  They will give you a brief talk on the history of chocolate in Amsterdam.  Your guide will be able to answer all of your questions and will be experienced and passionate about Amsterdam chocolate!  You will visit 3 different chocolate shops that are among the best in the city.

At two of these shops the group will be offered free samples of chocolate.  At one you can try a workshop that gives you the chance to see how chocolate is made here in Amsterdam!

The tour ends in a cozy venue where you will be treated to a hot drink and given the chance to try your samples.
It's a little known fact that Amsterdam is one of the greatest destinations in Europe for chocolate lovers.  But it's true!  Every day is an Amsterdam Chocolate Day here in the city.  Cities such as Brussels or Paris often overshadow Amsterdam's chocolatiers.  Amsterdam's delightful chocolate shops are almost a secret!  Cocoa was first introduced to Europe in the sixteenth century.

Considered a rare delicacy, it was typically served in European Royal courts.  Today, Amsterdam is the main global port for cocoa!  Since the nineteenth century chocolate became increasingly cheaper, and as a result wildly popular.  But we all know that already – after all, who doesn't love chocolate?

Eat Like a Local in Amsterdam: Traditional Dutch Meal in a Local Home

Food Tours Amsterdam
$61
Gain insight into local culture during an authentic home-cooked meal with a Dutch host. Go shopping with your host, then enter their home, located in a historical building in the pretty Jordaan district of Amsterdam. Hang out in the kitchen and chat as they whip up a traditional Dutch dish. If you wish, help out with the preparation and cooking. Once the food is ready, sit down for a casual and intimate meal, where you'll eat, converse and discover more about the local way of life.

This tour is a part of the Urban Adventures Home Cooked series and aims to give you one of the richest travelling experiences you can ever have — the opportunity to enjoy a meal in a local home.

The aim is for you to experience life exactly how it is. This experience will be no different than a local having dinner with any of their friends or relatives. It is the chance to hang out in the kitchen (customs and space willing) and chat about your life and theirs, the affairs of the day that are impacting and bringing joy into their home, and to feel for a few hours just how the locals really live.

You will be met at the meeting point by your host, at which point they will take you shopping in their neighbourhood before going to their home to cook and eat.

On arrival, if you want to help out chopping up some of the produce or you are particularly interested in the recipe behind this local meal, we invite you to participate as much or as little as you like.

When the food is ready you will all sit down together and share the meal prepared, enjoy the conversation, perhaps look at each other's photographs and maybe take some more together.

This experience is real. Our hosts come from all walks of life. Some are probably very similar to you and some are from poor or rural backgrounds. We encourage you to check out the photos here to make sure your expectations are correctly set about who you will be sharing a meal with and where they live. The beauty is that everyone involved in our Home Cooked Series is a wonderful person who wants to meet travellers and share this experience with them.

Hard Rock Cafe Amsterdam

Food Tours Amsterdam
$29
Visit the Hard Rock Cafe in picturesque Amsterdam and enjoy some traditional American fare. Some of the legendary memorabilia on display here include: Eddie Van Halen's trademark Kramer guitar, a small acoustic guitar that was used by Jimi Hendrix and a silver bodysuit worn by Marilyn Manson for a Versace campaign photo shoot.

Tree-lined canals, parks scattered about and bicycle fleets all contribute to the wandering mood of Amsterdam. You can submerge yourself in art, history, 17th and 18th century architecture, a fresh mug of beer, or better yet: the fine dining and a museum's worth of rock memorabilia at the Hard Rock Cafe Amsterdam.

Located near Leidseplein along Max Euweplein, the restaurant is split into three levels to offer you the best gaze upon our waterways, offering a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and locals alike. Live music courtesy of the Paradiso is sure to get those wooden dancing shoes tapping, so get on down to the Hard Rock Cafe Amsterdam for such a great time, you'll be surprised it's legal.
