NYC Speakeasy Walking Tour

Booze Tour New York
$27
Discover New York City's most secretive speakeasies on this guided, 3-hour, small-group walking tour in Lower Manhattan and Greenwich Village. Take a friendly stroll to discover six or seven of the most secretive speakeasies, hidden behind unmarked doors, coffee shops, restaurant kitchens, and more. Skip the lines with reserved tables, sip craft cocktails, and turn back the clock to the roaring 20s while the tour guide details the history of Prohibition and the causes and effects that led to pass and enforce the 18th amendment.

The meeting point for the group is always at a park where there is seating, shade, and water. While the group awaits for all the attendees to arrive, the tour guide will provide some general colonial history of New York City and deliver interesting facts related to the era — like why we say 'bucks' instead of dollars, why 'Houston' is pronounced differently in NYC, and much more.

Once the whole group is ready, the tour guide will provide a small introduction about the speakeasy tour and explain how long it is, how many speakeasies will be visited (it's usually six or seven), and at which speakeasy the group will be allowed to grab a drink. The tour guide will also explain where the tour ends, which is always an area with nightlife, bars, clubs, and restaurants — all located in close proximity to subway entrances.

On every tour, the first drink is enjoyed at the first speakeasy. In most cases, the group will either skip the line, get a reserved table, or both — but skipping the line is guaranteed. While enjoying a high-quality, internationally recognized, award-winning cocktail, the tour guide will explain about the causes and effects that led to passing the 18th amendment (Prohibition). The guide will not only explain how and why it was passed, but the history of alcohol consumption in the US in general, the history of alcohol taxation, and most importantly, how the US tried to enforce Prohibition.

For each drink, spend up to an hour, but in most cases, the group only takes around 40 minutes. Tour guides are obliged to assure that no one feels too rushed to finish their drinks because they are high-quality crafted cocktails that ought to be savored and enjoyed.

Some speakeasies will have even Burlesque shows, but all are completely hidden from the exterior. Go through unmarked doors, back alley ways, phone booths, a bank's vault door, behind a psychic shop, through doors indicating 'No Entrance,' 'Emergency exit only' or even through a Five Guys burger joint. Most of the speakeasies are so well hidden that most of our clientele are actually locals struggling to find them, even with the physical address on their phones.

At the last stop, the guide will give the option to either stay at the last speakeasy for a third drink or to explore the stimulated and vivid neighborhood where the tour ends, where there is many nightlife establishments, restaurants, clubs, bars, stand up comedy, life music and much more.

Hudson Valley Brewery Tour & Walkway over the Hudson

Booze Tour New York
$99

Departing most Saturdays from New York City. A full day to explore the beautiful Hudson Valley region of New York. Located only 90 miles (150km) north but feels like a world away from the city as we leave behind skyscrapers for rolling farmland and high mountain peaks. Hudson Valley farms feed the New York City area and the region is the epicenter for the farm-to-table movement and an exciting, growing brewery scene.

Designated as a National Heritage Area, the valley is steeped in history, natural beauty, culture and food. Among many attributes, it's the oldest wine producing area in the country, and the magnificent scenery inspired artists whose works became the Hudson River School of Painters.

Lonely Planet describes the Hudson River Valley as “a real city break, with leafy drives, wineries and plenty of farm-to-table foodie options.” National Geographic Traveler named the Hudson Valley one of the top 20 must-see destinations in the world.

After departing from the city in the morning, we will make a stop along the route for coffee and a meet & greet with your fellow travelers for the day. Continuing on to Poughkeepsie, we arrive at Walkway Over the Hudson State Park. This historic decommissioned rail bridge turned elevated pedestrian park has quickly become the most visited state park in New York. Crossing the bridge that spans nearly one and quarter miles across the river we will walk across the span; taking in gorgeous views of the city of Poughkeepsie, the Hudson River, and the Catskill and Shawangunk mountains.

Once on the other side, we spend the afternoon exploring two different breweries in the area. Ample time to enjoy flights and activities at each brewery will be given at each stop.

After our brewery explorations, we will stop in one of the quaint Hudson Valley villages for a group dinner before returning to Manhattan.

We will choose different breweries to visit each week, allowing you to join us on a different trip every week. The days itinerary will be determined by each specific days weather as some breweries have great outdoor spaces and other are enjoyed indoors.

New York City Speakeasy Tour

Booze Tour New York City
$53
Discover some of New York City's Prohibition-era bars with an in-the-know local guide during this 3-hour Manhattan walking tour. You'll visit four speakeasies and learn about the role these secret bars played when the 18th Amendment was in full swing from 1919 to 1933. Enjoy three provided drinks and a snack at East Village establishments such as McSorley's Old Ale House, which has only admitted female customers since 1970! Minimum age is 21 yrs due to licensing regulations. ID required.

Follow in the footsteps of New York's Prohibition-era drinkers who defied the 18th Amendment — which declared the production, transport and sale of alcohol illegal — by visiting four secret bars, aka speakeasies, located in tucked-away corners of the city.

Your 3-hour evening barhop begins at McSorley's Old Ale House in Manhattan's East Village. Known to locals as McSorley's, this mid-19th-century watering hole is New York City's oldest Irish tavern with a once-outdated mantra — until 1970, the former men-only pub lived by the motto 'Good Ale, Raw Onions and No Ladies.'

Take in the old-time atmosphere, including newspaper clippings and memorabilia that have remained on the walls since 1910. Perhaps dig into the popular cheese platter, complete with big slices of raw onion, as you sip a mug of house-brand ale.

Then it's off to three more well-preserved clandestine hideaways that were once part of the Big Apple's seamy underbelly. Three drinks and a snack are included, and you are welcome to purchase more beverages, if you wish.

Your walking tour ends in the East Village.

Brewery and Beer-Tasting Tour in Brooklyn

Booze Tour New York City
$82
Learn about Brooklyn's beer-brewing past and present on a guided walking tour of a local brewery and the history-rich neighborhood in which it's located. Brooklyn was a beer-brewing capital for much of the 1900s, but all of the 40+ breweries that existed in the borough pre-1970 have disappeared. Find out why, and what is causing them to return, as your local guide leads you on a brewery tour and a walk through the neighborhood of Williamsburg.

At the turn of the century, Brooklyn was considered a ‘Milwaukee of the East,' providing a home to approximately 40 breweries. But by the early 1970s, labor costs, prohibition and technological improvements caused every one of them to lock their doors and leave town. Over the past few years, new breweries have started popping up and are reinventing the crafts of their ancestors. Discover the story in depth as you follow your local guide on a walking tour through one of Brooklyn's favorite local breweries, where you'll take an exclusive tour and sample the delicious brew.

Next, head to the birthplace of Brooklyn's brewing scene, where you'll explore some of the historic 19th-century buildings that once housed brewing operations. Hear stories from your guide about the German immigrants that brewed the beer and lived in the neighborhood. Then visit the Church of Most Holy Trinity – St Mary, a beautiful church dating back to the mid-18th century. After, enjoy a full lunch (included) at a traditional pizza shop that uses the freshest ingredients.

Your final stop brings you to a friendly neighborhood bar to sample several more local brews.

Your guides will point out some of the unique architecture in the area, especially those connected to the literary history, as well as sites integral to the underground railroad, and the influence of Robert Moses' urban planning. Visit some of the only areas in Brooklyn historically protected as the neighborhood is quickly growing.
