Highlights of Baltimore - Food and History Tour

Tours Baltimore
$222
Take in the highlights of Baltimore in one action-packed day! Learn about Baltimore's place in American history as you tick off its historic sites, take a ferry ride around its iconic harbor and taste some of Maryland's world-famous culinary creations. End the day in a celebrated saloon, beer in hand, and pat yourself on the back for a day well-spent.

This tour is a combination of three of our most popular tours in Baltimore: Iconic Baltimore: Inner Harbor, History in the Making and Fells Point Happy Hour Your total day tour of Baltimore begins in the Mount Vernon neighborhood, where we will get you up to speed with the history of this great port city and the changing architecture of the area.

From here, we will make our way down Charles Street, where your guide will point out several buildings of interest — such as filming locations for some of TV's most popular shows. Soon we will arrive at the Baltimore Basilica. Conditions permitting, your guide will take you inside the columned entrance to marvel at the domed ceilings, prayer chapels and works of art. Our next destination is inside the Mount Vernon Marketplace - one of the city's most popular new hubs for artisanal food and drink. Your guide will show you to his or her favorite spot and order up a bite.

We'll then head back out to see a few more sights before making our way to a nearby coffeehouse. Your guide will happily suggest their favorite cookie to go along with your beverage of choice. After the Mount Vernon tour, we will take a short break together before taking a light rail ride to the starting location of the Inner Harbor tour nearby. We'll make our way to Camden Yards Sports Complex — at the feet of one of Baltimore's most celebrated sons, Babe Ruth. Here, we'll talk Baltimore sports and fill you in on the city's transportation history before setting out to see more sights!

Then we'll hop on the bus and continue on to taste one of Baltimore's most famous dishes, crab, at a popular seafood joint that locals have voted “Best Place to Get Crab.”

Weather-permitting, you'll begin the over-water part of your tour next, onboard one of the Inner Harbor's many ferries. Aboard the ferry, you'll have a unique perspective and a beautiful view of the harbor and its attractions. After disembarking the ferry, we'll take a walk to a delightful artisan fudge store, to indulge our sweet tooth, passing the USS Constellation as we go.

After a short rest we'll take another bus ride to join the final part of the tour, which begins in Broadway Square in the waterfront neighborhood of Fells Point. You'll discover the cultural and ethnic history that has given Baltimore its diverse culinary offerings.  Next, we head to the Broadway Market, the oldest market building in Baltimore. Here, you'll taste another Eastern European import, the pierogi. From the Broadway Market, we'll make our way towards a sweeter stop at a local cafe. Still thirsty? Enjoy a beer as we take in the sunset on the deck, or inside the gorgeous bar of a nearby hotel.

Once you finish your brew, we'll head to our final destination of the day: a historic saloon. Here we'll taste one of Baltimore's lesser-known snacks and you'll have an opportunity to buy a beer at the very same location of Poe's final drink.

Inner Harbor Sunset Sail

Water Tours Baltimore
$50
Experience the romance of sailing on this 1.5-hour sunset sail around the Inner Harbor. As the sun sinks into the water, enjoy gorgeous views of the skyline. Bring wine for a special experience on this Inner Harbor sunset sail.

Thanks for making plans to go sailing with us on the schooner Summer Wind!  We've moved to a new dock this season, so I wanted to make it easier for you to find us.  We sail from the Ritz-Carlton Dock now.  Sadly, the Ritz-Carlton Dock has no address and no sign, so how will you know where we are?  The closest parking lot is at the Rusty Scupper Restaurant and Inner Harbor Marina at 400 Key Highway.  There's also some street parking along Key Highway, if you can find any.

HOW TO FIND THE BOAT:

If you're at Rusty Scupper and facing the water, turn right.  You'll see Water Taxi Stop #4.  Walk past that and along the Promenade for about 5 minutes and you'll come to the next set of docks in front of the condo's.  That's the Ritz-Carlton Dock.  The Summer Wind will be on the end (you'll see our masts) and a crew member will be at the gate.  Another crew will be walking the Promenade between the boat and Rusty Scupper.  Just look for someone in a gray "American Sailing Tours" T-shirt.

As you sail through the water in the Inner Harbor, listen to the romantic voices of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, and other crooners. Feel the warm summer breeze as you watch the sun sink into the harbor. Admire the gorgeous skyline as the lights begin to shine. Enjoy the stars in the sky as you relax and enjoy the company of your loved one.

Sail the night away on this romantic sunset sailing experience.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to departure time for boarding. A crewmember will meet you at the gate. The boat does leave on time.

American Visionary Art Museum Admission

Museums Baltimore
$10
The American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) is a Congressionally-designated national museum and education center devoted to creative, intuitive and self-taught art in all its manifestations—be they innovations in art, science, engineering, philosophy, humor, or especially—as creative acts of social betterment. AVAM is dedicated to the exhibition, study, collection, preservation, and promotion of visionary art and to increasing the public's awareness, knowledge, and understanding of this manner of artistic expression and to the promotion of creative, compassionate thinking.

Visionary art, as defined for the purposes of the American Visionary Art Museum, refers to art produced by self-taught individuals, usually without formal training, whose works arise from an innate personal vision that revels foremost in the creative act itself. In short, visionary art begins by listening to the inner voices of the soul, and often may not even be thought of as 'art' by its creator.

At the AVAM, we are committed to unveiling a great range of the best of visionary art by exploring one unifying theme at a time. We seek out individual guest curators who know, respect, and adore visionary art and who are likely to have their own special relationship with a particular exhibition theme. We like them to lead a full life quite apart from their curatorial abilities, so that their personal richness and other interests can influence their show.

In addition to exhibits by guest curators, we also have over 4,000 permanent pieces in our collection! We rotate exhibition of the best works in our Permanent Collection Gallery, located on Level 1 of our Main Building, opposite AVAM's Museum Shop, as well as throughout our other two buildings and garden space. Approximately 50 works will be on view at any one time in the Permanent Collection Gallery. This space also permits us to showcase some amazing works made available to AVAM on long-term loan. With the Permanent Collection Gallery, the Third Floor Gallery, Tall Sculpture Barn, and the 45,000 sq. foot Jim Rouse Visionary Center, AVAM can stay open during the five-week change periods between each of our annual thematic exhibitions. AVAM is dedicated to continuing production of all new mega-exhibitions, which provide an ideal forum for public exploration of all the grand themes that have always inspired human beings into acts of fresh, new creation.
