Private Tours Amsterdam
$33
This customizable private walking tour of the Amsterdam Jordaan Area will show many of its highlights from a local perspective. Besides being one of the city's hot spots today, the district also has a long history as a working class area. Our tour will let you experience both worlds of the Jordaan!

Your morning or afternoon in this area will start at your hotel (if situated close-by the area) or at the statue of Anne Frank at the foot of the West Church (Westerkerk). Set off in a relaxing pace to make sure you really get to see, feel and learn all about this district.

The Jordaan district of Amsterdam is definitely known as one of the real hot spots of Amsterdam. The origins of the area can be traced back to the 17th century where it is believed to have been erected for the city's laborers and immigrants. Many of these immigrants originated from France or near, then being the agricultural part of town, was subsequently named Jardin which is French for garden. This word eventually changed into Jordaan, the name of the district today.

As a working class neighborhood this area ceased to exist in the 1980s. Due to urban renewal the rent price rose and many of the original inhabitants moved to satellite towns such as Purmerend and Almere. After their departure the area became the trendy place to be, attracting students, artists and young entrepreneurs. During the walk your guide will enlighten you with many stories and anecdotes about these contrasting periods in the Jordaan.

We will also visit a typical Dutch "Hofje" (inner court or patio garden) and show you the famous Westchurch and many small streets and idyllic canals. On Mondays and Saturdays we will also visit a vibrant local market. Volendam and Edam, both known for their fishing boats and scenery, are also stops on this countryside tour. Traditional Dutch costumes are still worn by some residents in Volendam, which was also once a retreat for famous artists. Both Picasso and Renoir spent time in this village during the 20th century. While smaller than Volendam, Edam holds particular fame for its cheese and beautiful historical center.

The sixth stop is Purmerend, a city surrounded by polders, offering boutique shops and an abundance of restaurants and cafes at the 'Veemarkt' (former cattle market).

The seventh stop is Zaanse Schans. Admire a collection of well-preserved historic windmills and see Dutch history come to life! A must-see during this hop-on hop-off tour.

The eighth stop brings you to Zaandam which was once the trade centre of the region in the 19th century!

The final stop brings you back to the starting point at THIS IS HOLLAND. Amsterdam's newest attraction offers the ultimate flight experience over Holland in Amsterdam.

As each stop is unique and provides its own slice of culture, this tour is perfect for discovering and exploring the Dutch countryside. Spending as much or as little time at each stop gives you the perfect flexibility that cannot be found elsewhere. When planning your trip to Holland, be sure not to miss this gem of a tour which is suitable for all!

Upgrading your tour ticket offers you free admission to two memorable adventures of your choice. This includes options such as viewing Amsterdam from the panoramic view at the LOOKOUT, museum admission in Edam, a tour or a photo in traditional Dutch clothing in Volendam, or even a scenic canal ride in Zaanse Schans. Don't miss this amazing opportunity!

Some of the artwork that you will see on the A-Bike Light Festival Tour are: the Bunch of Tulips from the Hungarian civil engineer Peter Koros; the moving Wolfert's Dog made by Tatiana Titova; and the refined artwork called The Lace by Choi and Shine Architects from New York. Most of the tour will take place on the Herengracht canal, which flows through the most beautiful and historic parts of Amsterdam.

Entrance Ticket to the Dutch Costume Museum in Amsterdam

Museums Amsterdam
$12

The Dutch Costume Museum is housed in a beautiful 17th century canal house and is interesting for everyone who is visiting Amsterdam and like to know a little bit more about the Dutch history. If you love history, fashion, design, crafts and local storytelling... this is the place in Amsterdam where you can find it.

There is a renewed interest in sustainable fashion with a story, in which craft and handwork are prominent. This stirs up a new curiosity in traditional folk costumes which can be admired at the Dutch Costume Museum. Local and traditional clothing with its characteristic scent of form and proportion is a source of inspiration for today‘s fashion designers.

Mario Testino did a photoshoot in the museum for Vogue with young models and traditional bonnets. John Galliano en Walter van der Beierendonck used the Staphorst dot painting technics on fabrics for their men collection in 2017 and 2018. You can learn this in our workshops.

The Dutch Costume Museum shows everyone who is interested in folklore the explosion of colors, combinations and designs, reflecting the history of the Dutch folk costumes and the stories and related practices. This way these stories will not be forgotten in a time when folk costumes are gradually vanishing from our streets. The museum is in a 17th century old canal house in the centre of Amsterdam.

The museum has a unique shop with handmade presents made by the original folk factory. It is open for the public all day from 10am until 6pm.

In the photo studio you can have the photographer take a photo of you in Dutch folk costume with your family or friends. It makes a great souvenir of a nice visit to Amsterdam to bring back home (own expense).

Museum Ons' Liever Heer op Solder: Our Lord in the Attic Museum Entrance Ticket in Amsterdam

Museums Amsterdam
$15
Tucked away in the heart of Amsterdam's inner city lies a small marvel: Our Lord in the Attic Museum. A uniquely preserved seventeenth-century house from the Dutch Golden Age. Explore the narrow corridors and climb the stairs to historically furnished living rooms, kitchens and bedsteads, leading to the high point of the museum: an entire church in the attic.

This Catholic church dates from 1663. While it was prohibited to celebrate mass, the authorities turned a blind eye. Indeed, the church symbolises the characteristic (religious) tolerance of the Netherlands, established by the Dutch in the sixteenth century under Willem of Orange. Freedom of religion and of conscience are central themes at the museum today. It makes Our Lord in the Attic far more than a museum: it is a special place in which to contemplate and to experience.

Extension
Museum Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder is the oldest museum in the city, second only to the Rijksmuseum. A unique monument from the Golden Age, it has been preserved largely due to initiatives taken by private individuals. In 2015, the monument was extended into an additional building at Oudezijds Voorburgwal 38, where the new entrance vestibule was established. The two buildings are connected to each other via an underground passage. Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder is now a proper in situ museum – where history is tangible and everything is old and authentic, where visitors can truly experience the building and its story, and where a link can even be established with current events.

Banksy – Laugh now
Roy Lichtenstein – Lasting Influence
Current exhibitions untill May 31st

The Moco Museum is located in Villa Alsberg in the middle of the Amsterdam's Museumplein. This townhouse was designed in 1904 by Eduard Cuypers, cousin of the renowned Pierre Cuypers who was responsible for the Rijksmuseum, which is on the opposite side of the square. The restyling of all the quarters was done by Studio Piet Boon.

Enjoy the current following exhibitions during your visit to the Moco Museum:

Banksy: Laugh Now
On the ground floor you will find the elaborate Banksy “Laugh Now” exhibition. The exhibition contains around 50 original works by Street Art-legend Banksy. For the first time in history there is a Banksy exhibition in a museum.

Moco museum is displaying all his famous works like Laugh Now, Barcode, Girl with Balloon, Kids on Guns, Pulp Fiction, Flower Thrower, Monkey Queen, Kate Moss, Bomb Hugger, Soup Can and many more. The main piece during this exhibition is the painting “Beanfield”, which is 2,5 x 3,5 meters. This piece has not been on display since 2009. A very important canvas that characterizes Banksy as an activist artist. Banksy is well known for his outdoor art. You can find his pieces of street art all around the world. In London you can even buy maps marking the locations where you can find these pieces of art, which are mostly protected. Not everyone knows that Banksy also makes art for indoors. Original and unique works on canvas, wood and paper.

Roy Lichtenstein: Lasting Influence

At the Moco Museum an exhibition of one of the greatest contemporary art interpreters and a master of Pop Art. The influence of Roy Lichtenstein's art is still evident in many forms of artistic expression: from painting to advertising, from photography to design and fashion.

Lichtenstein's art seems apparently “easy” to understand. But beyond the surface it is an intellectual, rationalistic art, premeditated and realized through a complex process of a deconstruction and reconstruction of the image: bold lines associated with flat colors, thousands of regular dots, a magnified halftone screen, that suggests the idea of chiaroscuro and even the impression of reflections of light.

From the beginning Roy Lichtenstein's sophisticated art has had an uninterrupted power of seduction on visual culture and communication, whose end is still far off.
